Pocket Accountant

Pocket Accountant vs QuickBooks

A useful comparison starts with your workflow. Here is where QuickBooks may fit, and what Pocket Accountant includes for freelancers and small business owners.

Start with Starter

Where QuickBooks may fit

QuickBooks Online offers multiple accounting plans and a broad set of connected tools. Its official accounting page describes invoicing, reporting, payroll and time-tracking options, plus accountant access. It may suit businesses that need that wider ecosystem.

  • Consider it when payroll, inventory or team needs drive your decision
  • Check which plan and add-ons cover your specific workflow

Where Pocket Accountant may fit

Choose Starter at $0 for manual bookkeeping, customer invoices, vendor bills and mileage records. Pro adds connected bank review, reconciliation, reports, budgets, receipt and bill scan autofill, and Pocket Assistant guidance.

  • Starter is a free plan, not a time-limited Pro trial
  • Website Pro: $20 billed monthly or $198 billed yearly ($16.50/month equivalent)
  • Review suggestions before they change your books; usage limits and plan permissions still apply

Compare the work, not just the headline price

Check QuickBooks’s current plans on its official site, including any introductory period, payment-processing fees and extra services. Pocket Accountant prices here are website prices in USD; app-store prices and taxes may differ.

  • List the invoices, bank connections and reports you need
  • Check payroll, inventory or accountant collaboration requirements separately
  • Test your everyday workflow before you replace an existing system

Plan a careful starting point

Keep copies of your existing records. Choose a starting date and check opening balances with your accountant. Pocket Accountant does not offer a full-history migration from these products.

  • Try a small set of records in Starter first
  • Check totals against your existing books
  • Avoid entering or importing the same activity twice

QuickBooks: official product and plan information

Does Pocket Accountant automatically transfer my existing books?

No. Pocket Accountant does not currently offer a complete transfer of historical books from QuickBooks, Wave or FreshBooks. Keep your original exports and agree on a starting point with your accountant.

What can I try without a paid subscription?

Starter includes manual records, invoices, bills and manual mileage. Pro-only tools such as bank feeds, reports, scan autofill and Pocket Assistant require Pro.

Is Pocket Accountant a payroll service or a replacement for my accountant?

No. Pocket Accountant is not a payroll provider or a CPA firm. Use it to organize records and review your business figures; seek professional advice for your own circumstances.

Can I move my records from QuickBooks?

Pocket Accountant does not currently import QuickBooks company or backup files, or transfer a complete QuickBooks history. Keep an export of your existing records and agree on a starting date and opening balances with your accountant before entering records here. A Pro bank connection is not a transfer of your old books. Try Starter with a few records before deciding whether it fits; no migration date or automatic transfer is promised.
